Firewire drives have not been qualified with the 400 and 500 MHz models with this configuration.

Magma 2 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System

The Magma 2 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System and Apple PowerBook G4 are now Digidesign approved with Pro Tools|24 MIX & MIXplus systems.

System details:

Track Count:

  • MIX or MIXplus with Pro Tools v5.1.1, 5.1.3 and 5.2
  • Support for up to 30 tracks of playback and record
  • Track count is based on tests using 24-bit/48kHz audio with 300ms edits across all tracks.
  • Track count will increase as bit /sample rates and edit density are decreased.

EIDE drives have not been qualified with this configuration.

Magma 4 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System

The Magma 4 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System and Apple PowerBook G4 are now Digidesign approved with Pro Tools|24 MIX, MIXplus & MIX3 systems.

System details:

Track Count:

  • MIX, MIXplus or MIX3 with Pro Tools v5.1.1, 5.1.3 and 5.2
  • Support for up to 30 tracks of playback and record

Additional Requirements:

Mac OS 9.1, 9.2, 9.2.1, or 9.2.2 required

  • You must choose OS 9 as your startup system
  • OS X is not supported with Pro Tools 5
  • OS X "Classic Mode" is not supported with Pro Tools

SCSI HBA Card required:

The following SCSI HBA card is qualified with the Apple Titanium PowerBook G4/Magma configuration:

ATTO ExpressPCI Single-Channel Ultra2/WIDE UL2S

  • The Magma 2 Slot Expansion System is available in two approved models.  Magma models CB2S & CB2SDC include the ATTO ExpressPCI Single-Channel Ultra2/WIDE UL2S model Ultra2 SCSI controller with internal and external connector:
  • CB2S 2 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System with integrated SCSI Controller Card (90W power supply)
  • CB2SDC 2 Slot CardBus PCI Expansion System with integrated SCSI Controller Card, XLR DC Power Connector, (100W external power supply)
  • Note: 2 other Magma 2 slot models, the CB2 & CB2DC, do not include an integrated SCSI controller and are not approved for use with MIX or MIXplus systems without the addition of the ATTO ExpressPCI Single-Channel Ultra2/WIDE UL2S.
  • The Magma 4 Slot CardBus chassis, Model CB4DRQ-D1, plus the ATTO ExpressPCI UL2S SCSI HBA (with firmware v1.6.3) for compatibility. (standard chassis does not ship with an integrated SCSI controller, but Magma can add the ATTO card to your custom order)

Atto Software & Settings

External Diskette Drive

Although not required with Pro Tools installation, a Digidesign-qualified external diskette drive may be required for installation of some plug-ins and optional software applications.

MIDI:

Digidesign supports the following MIDI Interfaces for use with the Apple Titanium PowerBook G4 and Pro Tools® 5.3.1:

  • Emagic AMT8
  • MOTU MTP AV - USB
  • MOTU Fastlane MIDI Interface
  • Roland UM4/UM2 MIDI Interface

Firewire Hard Drives

Both SCSI & Firewire drives have been qualified with this configuration with the following G4 PowerBooks:

  • 550 MHz PowerBook G4
  • 667 MHz PowerBook G4
  • 800 MHz PowerBook G4

Only SCSI drives have been qualified with this configuration with the following G4 PowerBooks:

  • 400 MHz PowerBook G4
  • 500 MHz PowerBook G4

Firewire drives have not been qualified with the 400 and 500 MHz models with this configuration.

IDE/ATA Hard Drives

  • EIDE drives have not been qualified with this configuration.
