Pro Tools TDM Windows Requirements For IDE/ATA Hard Drives

Up to 32 track, 24 bit, 48 KHz performance from one dedicated internal IDE/ATA audio drive is supported.

Drives must meet the following requirements:

Minimum Drive Requirements

  • Disk drive rotational speed: minimum 7200 RPM

  • Average seek time of less than 10.0 ms

  • Support of the ATA100 or higher UDMA66 controller

  • Each IDE drive must have DMA enabled in the "System" Control Panel. This can be changed in the "Settings" of each IDE drive on the "Device Manager" tab of the "System" Control Panel. For detailed instructions click here.

  • Drive must be dedicated for audio. (boot drives may also be used for some audio tracks, however performance/track count may be considerably less than when using a dedicated drive)

  • Windows XP file system: FAT32 or NTFS

  • Mac HFS+ supported for transfer only when used with MacDrive

  • Pro Tools does not support RAID technology. Please do not activate this feature

  • Mono, 24-bit, 44.1 kHz audio requires approximately 7.5 MB/minute disk space

Note: Pro Tools has a single audio file size limit of 2048MB, regardless of operating system used. This equates to about 4.5 hours at 24-bit, 44.1 kHz.
