DAE and DigiSystem® INIT (DSI)

In Pro Tools 5 and earlier Mac systems, it is important to use matched versions of the DAE and the DigiSystem® INIT (DSI) whenever possible. Mismatched versions can cause a number of problems, including program errors or unimplemented trap errors.

For troubleshooting, the most up-to-date list of DAE Errors can be found in the online Answerbase (see details & search tips at the bottom of this page)

If you experience download or decoding problems, see the Download Help page. Newer Mac downloads require Stuffit Expander 5.1.2 or higher: Download Aladdin's FREE Stuffit Expander for Mac or Windows

The following table lists the release dates for most of the DAE and DSI versions, and indicates the Digidesign or third party application that each version was released with. Many of these files are DAE/DSI combination installers which will move your previous versions to the "Obsoleted Digidesign Software" folder. Manual installations are required where indicated.

DAE 6.1cs1 Beta Fix - TDM Only

Included on the Pro Tools 6.1 CD in the Beta & Bug Fix folder. Not included with the Pro Tools 6.1 TDM web updater.

From the included DAE 6.1cs1 Read Me:

DAE 6.1cs1 (TDM Systems Only)

DAE 6.1cs1 is for Pro Tools TDM 6.1 users who are experiencing buffer underrun or –6031 errors when using the SYNC I/O or AVoption|XL. This version of DAE will help lessen the frequency of these errors as long as no RTAS plug-ins are used in the session. Do not use any RTAS plug-ins with this build of DAE. This is only a temporary workaround while the root cause of the problem is investigated.

To install DAE 6.1cs1:

  1. Locate and launch the DAE 6.1cs1 Installer file in the Additional Files\Beta Software folder on the Pro Tools TDM Installer CD-ROM, or download from the link here
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions
  3. When the installation is complete, restart your computer

To revert to DAE 6.1 on Macintosh:

Re-install the Pro Tools application from the Pro Tools 6.1 TDM Installer CD-ROM or the Pro Tools 6.1 TDM web updater.

Note: DAE 6.1cs1 will also work with Pro Tools TDM 6.1 Japanese, although the splash screen dialogues "initializing DAE server", etc. during launch will be in English.

DigiSystem INIT for Pro Tools|24 MIX Macintosh Systems Only

What's Fixed in DigiSystem INIT 5.1.3cs5?

DigiSystem INIT 5.1.3cs5 contains the following:

  • Fixed: Pro Tools MIX Cards Not Recognized in Late Model Digidesign 7-slot, SBS 7-slot, and SBS 13-slot Chassis

The following chassis, shipped after January 2002, did not recognize Pro Tools|24 MIX cards when installed. This problem has been fixed. In addition, Pro Tools|24 MIX and Pro Tools|HD users will need to download an updated version of DigiTest (available soon) if they wish to test their setups with these chassis.

  • Digidesign 7-slot chassis
  • SBS 7-slot chassis
  • SBS 13-slot chassis

DigiSystem INIT 5.1.3cs5 is still compatible with earlier chassis.

Who Should Use This Update?

This update should be used only by:

  • Any Pro Tools 5.1.1 or 5.1.3 user with a Digidesign 7-slot, SBS 7-slot or SBS 13-slot chassis shipped after January 2002
  • DigiSystem INIT 5.1.3cs5 can only be used to replace the Pro Tools 5.1.1 or 5.1.3 DigiSystem INIT
  • DigiSystem INIT 5.1.3cs5 may be used in conjunction with any version of the Pro Tools 5.1.1 or 5.1.3 application, but should only be used if your MIX cards are not being recognized by the chassis listed above.

DAE 5.3 R2 Update for Pro Tools|HD on Macintosh

  • Addresses Errors with Plug-In Inserts Menu Operation

What's Fixed in DAE 5.3 R2?

  • Some Plug-Ins Are Incorrectly Listed Twice or Missing from the Plug-In Inserts Menu

With Pro Tools TDM 5.3, one or more plug-ins may appear to be missing from the Plug-In Inserts menu, while other plugins may be listed twice. Additionally, selecting one of the duplicate plug-in names from the menu may actually instantiate one of the "missing" plug-ins. DAE 5.3 R2 corrects this problem.

Who Should Use This Update?

This update should be used only by Pro Tools|HD system owners using Pro Tools TDM 5.3 and the first revision of DAE 5.3, which shipped with Pro Tools|HD systems in the first quarter of 2002. Beginning in April 2002, the Pro Tools 5.3 Installer CD ROM automatically installs DAE 5.3 R2. Pro Tools|HD customers who received DAE 5.3 R2 do not to need to use this update.

For Pro Tools and Pro Tools LE 5.0.1 only, and only with recent Digidesign hardware.

The Motorola 56301 DSP chip used on all 001, MIX and d24 cards changed in the fall of 2000. Cards manufactured with this chip began shipping in January 2001. New cards are identifiable by checking the Mask stenciled on the 56301 Motorola chip. "K30" (right below the "56301" on the face of the chip) indicates a new rev of the chip. In contrast, the previous version of the chip is marked "3F48S". There is no change in functionality with Pro Tools.

A separate CD with this DSI and DigiTest 5.0.3 was included in the box with all Pro Tools & Pro Tools LE hardware systems that included these newer cards and shipped with version 5.0.1 software.

Pro Tools 5.1 includes DigiSystem INIT 5.1 & DigiTest 5.1, eliminating the need for this special DSI.
