SSL G Series Console Listening Tests

Digidesign — July, 2001

The enclosed files are from the listening tests that were performed in late June, 2001 between an SSL G series console and the Pro Tools mix bus. We are posting excerpts of these files so that you can compare them yourselves. Details of how the listening tests were conducted (and the files created) are listed on the enclosed document named "SSL-PT Listening Test Details".

Please keep in mind that the purpose of the test was to simply compare the sound of the mix bus, not EQ, dynamics or effects processing. We did these listening tests because quite a few people commented that they could easily distinguish the difference between the Pro Tools and SSL mix busses only (with no processing, only fader levels and pan). It seemed worthwhile to see what differences (if any) were audible.

These are different lengths of the same audio files. The Long version is for users with high-speed internet access. Users with slower internet access can download the Small or Medium versions of these Pro Tools SoundDesigner II format files for import into a Pro Tools listening test session. All three files include details of the test procedure and instructions on how to listen on your own Pro Tools TDM system.
