Windows Millennium & 98 Second Edition Settings
& Requirements
-
Each IDE drive must have DMA enabled in the "System" Control Panel.
This can be changed in the "Settings" of each IDE drive on the "Device
Manager" tab of the "System" Control Panel. For
detailed instructions click here
-
Auto Insert Notification must be disabled for all CD-ROM and removable
media drives (such as Zip Drives). This can be changed in the "Settings"
of each of these types of drives on the "Device Manager" tab of the
"System" Control Panel. For more
information click here
-
Although not a requirement, removing or disabling startup applications,
system utilities (i.e. Norton Utilities) internal and external hardware
devices (i.e. tape drives, Ethernet cards, scanners, TV tuners, non-Digidesign
sound or MIDI drivers) may increase the performance of Pro Tools LE.
Just keep in mind: the more you demand of Pro Tools the more Pro Tools
demands of your system.
Additional Notes:
-
Pro Tools FREE can NOT be installed on systems running Windows XP,
2000, NT, 95, or 3.1.
-
While Windows 98 First Edition may run Pro Tools FREE, only Millennium
& 98 Second Edition have been tested by Digidesign.
-
Double-byte character version of Windows is currently not supported
(i.e. Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic)
Dual Boot Systems
If you have a new PC that only has Windows XP or Windows 2000 on it,
you will need to also install a compatible operating system on a separate
partition or hard drive in order to use Pro Tools FREE for Windows 98
SE or Windows Me. If you want to use more than one operating system on
the same computer, you can use a program such as PartitionMagic®
to help create a "dual boot" system.
