MIDI I/O Software version 2.0.3 adds support for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

This installer can be used on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). When run on a particular operating system it will automatically install the corresponding system components.

In order to work with BOTH OS 9 and OS X, this installer must be run twice:

• Boot with OS 9 as Startup Disk - Double-click "Install MIDI IO" application
• Boot with OS X as Startup Disk - Double-click "Install MIDI IO" application

Switching Between OS 9 and OS X

If you are planning to use MIDI I/O on both operating systems you will have to install new drivers on OS X as well as on OS 9. Please be aware that older OS 9 driver versions such as v1.0.1 and v1.0 will no longer work once your MIDI I/O unit has been set up for use in OS X. Running the MIDI I/O Installer application on OS 9 ensures installation of the required v1.5 drivers.

The MIDI I/O 2.0.3 driver adds the following improvements.

• Communication between Pro Tools and HUI or MotorMix no longer fails with intermittent displays and unreliable hardware fader control

Improved Handling of OS X USB Communication Errors on 2003 "FW800" PowerMac G4 CPUs

• Mac OS X occasionally stalls all USB communication for a short period of time. MIDI I/O would then re-initialize its unit ID and appear twice in AMS, causing existing AMS connections to break.

Improved AMS Rescan Functionality on 2003 "FW800" PowerMac G4 CPUs

• Under certain circumstances MIDI I/O could go offline when hitting the Rescan button in AMS. This caused a second MIDI I/O interface to appear in AMS, or required a manual reset of MIDI I/O.

Resolved a firmware problem and also provides improved general performance

• If you own or use a Digidesign MIDI I/O in conjunction with Mac OS 9 or OS X, you should take advantage of this update in order to optimize performance.

MIDI Time Code Failure On Output

• When using the original MIDI I/O drivers, version 1.0, MIDI Time Code cannot be sent on any port of a MIDI I/O. However, MIDI Time Code can be received. This issue has been resolved with the new MIDI I/O drivers, version 1.0.1 and higher, and MIDI Time Code can be correctly sent and received on all ports of a MIDI I/O.

Who Should Use This?

• Digidesign recommends that all MIDI I/O owners use this installer to update for current and future compatibility with both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X
• Any MIDI I/O user that needs to install the MIDI I/O software at a location without their original CD

Installation instructions:

1. Download, expand with Stuffit Expander, and double click to launch the installer
2. IMPORTANT: Disconnect the USB cable to MIDI I/O prior to installing. If you have multiple units please disconnect all.
3. Run the MIDI I/O installer. Reboot is recommended, although not required.
4. Reconnect your MIDI I/O units to USB.
5. You are done. Make some music!

Who Should Use This?

• MIDI I/O users experiencing initialization failures (unit doesn't power up, no LED startup sequence)

This Firmware update will allow you to use your MIDI I/O on Mac OS 9, but will not work with Mac OS X. This download contains firmware for use with MIDI I/O drivers version 1.0 and 1.0.1 with Mac OS 9.

Installation instructions:

In order to update the box with the latest firmware, do the following:

1. Boot with Mac OS 9 as your startup system
2. Put both the "MIDI_FWUpdater" driver AND the "MIDI_FWUpdaterPatch" driver in your System Folder-> Extensions folder. It is OK if you leave the original MIDI I/O drivers in the Extensions folder as well.
3. While holding down the front panel "Panic/Reset" button on the MIDI I/O, unplug and re-plug the MIDI I/O USB cable.
4. Keep holding down the button until you see a slow LED sequence start. This indicates that the firmware is being loaded to the MIDI I/O. You can let go of the button now.
5. When the LED lights begin to blink on and off, the firmware loading process is complete.
6. Now unplug the MIDI I/O from the USB bus, and also power-cycle the device by unplugging it's power (if you are using an external power adapter).
7. Remove both the "MIDI_FWUpdater" driver AND the "MIDI_FWUpdaterPatch" driver in your System Folder-> Extensions folder.
8. The MIDI I/O is now ready to be used.
