External Floppy Diskette Drive
Although not required with Pro Tools installation, a Digidesign
Qualified External Floppy Diskette Drive (USB floppy drive)
may be required for installation of some Plug-Ins and optional software
applications when used with Macintosh Blue & White G3 or newer
models that do not include a floppy drive.
Firewire Drives:
Built-in Firewire ports on the Blue & White G3 are not recommended
with firewire hard drives due to poor performance.
SCSI HBA Card:
For maximum track count, the Blue & white G3 requires the use
of a qualified SCSI HBA card. Optional SCSI HBA cards bundled (by
Apple) with Power Macintosh computers are not compatible with this
configuration due to the lack of NVRAM to store Pro Tools desired
SCSI transfer rate. The following SCSI HBA cards are qualified for
use with Blue & White G3s:
ATTO ExpressPCI SCSI HBA card EPCI-DC (ExpressPCI Dual Channel
Ultra/WIDE HBA, also available in the Digidesign SCSI64 Kit) with
the following requirements:

MIDI: Both USB and serial MIDI interfaces work effectively
with Pro Tools. Serial MIDI interfaces
require either a Mac serial port or a qualified modem-to-serial
port adapter. Digidesign currently supports the GeeThree
Stealth Port or Griffin
gPort installed in the modem port (thereby not using a PCI slot).
When using the GeeThree products with OS 9.0.4, version 1.0.3 or
higher of the Stealth Port extension is required, available here:

DSP Farm and SampleCell II Support:
The PCI Matchmaker chip on a DSP Farm must be rev QC or QE (see
this page for details) to
be compatible. Cards with rev Q chips can be upgraded. Please contact
your local Digidesign office using the following procedure:
d24 Support: Some d24 cards may
experience recognition problems in the 400 MHz Blue & White
G3 or G4s with AGP Graphics. If so, please contact your local Digidesign
office.
