What's New?
This version of DirectConnect and Digidesign StreamManager
applies to Pro Tools|24 MIX users only. It allows you
to instantiate a second HTDM plug-in or combination
of DirectConnect and HTDM plug-ins without the need
for an empty SRAM chip. Previously there was a bug in
the Digidesign StreamManager that would prevent you
from instantiating more than one HTDM plug-in or any
combination of DirectConnect and HTDM plug-ins without
an empty SRAM chip available. A single SRAM chip is
now able to handle up to 16 stereo DirectConnect or
HTDM plug-ins in any order and any combination.

What's New?
This new version of DirectConnect and Digidesign StreamManager
improves the following features and functions:
Consolidated Support For Different
Sample Buffers
-
In the past you had to swap both DirectConnect
and Digidesign StreamManager files when changing
buffer sizes between 512 and 128 samples. This is
no longer necessary as Digidesign StreamManager
now solely determines the buffer size while the
DirectConnect plug-in automatically adjusts to the
currently installed version of Digidesign StreamManager.

To change the buffer size of DirectConnect you
will have to swap the Digidesign StreamManager file
only. The DirectConnect plug-in will not have to
be changed.
A side effect of the lower buffer size is a higher
load on your host CPU. In extreme cases, you might
not be able to reach the same level of performance
achieved with the standard version of DirectConnect.
If you experience excessive "low CPU" warnings,
or even audio dropouts, we recommend going back
to the shipping version of DirectConnect.

Please note that this functionality is essential
for correct operation of HTDM
(Host TDM) plug-ins such as Native Instruments
B4 or Pro52. Please make sure that you are using
Digidesign StreamManager and DirectConnect v5.1.1cs9
when working with HTDM plug-ins.

The standard versions of DirectConnect v5.1 and v5.1.1
that are installed with your Pro Tools v5.1 or v5.1.1
software provide a 512 sample buffer for streaming audio
into Pro Tools. This newer version of DirectConnect
5.1.1_128 has a much reduced buffer size of 128 samples.
The smaller buffer results in much lower audio latencies
that now range well below 9 milliseconds for TDM systems
and below 12 milliseconds for Pro Tools LE (at 44.1
kHz sampling rate). This means that if you play notes
on your DirectConnect compatible synthesizer (such as
Native Instrument's Reaktor) you will most likely no
longer perceive latency.
A side effect of the lower buffer size is a higher load
on your host CPU. In extreme cases, you might not be
able to reach the same level of performance achieved
with the standard version of DirectConnect. If you experience

I/O interface only. The Pro
Tools 5.3.1r2 download includes version 5.3.1r2
of the Digidesign StreamManager (512 sample buffer)
which has the following fix:
- DirectConnect plug-ins or applications like Soft
SampleCell and Native Instruments did not work with
the 192 Digital I/O
The Pro Tools 5.3.1r2 download does not include this
Digidesign StreamManager_128 file (128 sample buffer)
with the same fix for the 192 Digital I/O, but with
the smaller sample buffer size. If you have a Pro Tools|HD
Macintosh system and the 192 Digital I/O, this
download can be used instead of the Digidesign StreamManager_128
file located on your Pro Tools|HD 5.3 or 5.3.1 CD in
the Beta & Bug Fix folder.
