Some Features Added in Pro Tools LE 5.1.1 Since Pro ToolsLE 5.1

Version 5.1.1 is essentially a maintenance release to version 5.1, with the addition of a few added features:

  • Display enhancements to the Show/Hide Tracks List

  • Changes to the Edit/Mix Groups List

  • Enhancements to the Zoomer Tool functionality

  • Importation of compressed QuickTime files (Mac only)

  • Added RTAS support for the DigiRack Trim Plug-In

Stereo Tracks

1. Greatly simplifies the grouping, editing and mixing of stereo audio tracks

2. Collapsible, hierarchical stereo regions display in the Regions List

Mixing Enhancements

1. Multiple output and send assignments for each track — allowing simultaneous mixes

2. New I/O Setup page for flexible mono and stereo routing including

  • User definable sub paths for easy management of any possible I/O routing

  • User definable I/O Setting Files including import/export support for sharing/moving settings between systems and sessions

3. Supports multiple open Plug-In windows simultaneously for immediate on-screen access to any Plug-In's parameters

4. Duplicate Track — preserves Plug-In instances, settings and automation playlists — or quick track creation and versioning

5. Drag and drop Plug-In duplication and re-ordering plus "automation safe" mode for individual Plug-Ins

6. Automatic Write to Stop — writes automation data on stop following standard console automation behavior

7. Linked record and playback faders so that playback matches record monitor fader levels

Editing and Navigation Enhancements

1. Multiple levels of Undo — for increased flexibility and creativity

2. Session "Auto-Save" — Saves incremental back-up copies of work-in-progress automatically.

3. Alternate grouped Playlist switching and "matching start time" takes list now work on multiple tracks, including groups, and selections, for increased flexibility with track comp'ing and auditioning takes. (Note — still one automation playlist; works with MIDI playlists as well)

4. Redesigned Strip Silence allows intelligent removal of silence with improved accuracy and control — increases creative options as well as maximizing storage and session efficiency.

5. A suite of new features for increased efficiency and ease of use

  • Track View toggle — for quick focus on particular selection by zooming in and enlarging target

  • Zoom Toggle — for quick toggling between default and most commonly used playlist views

  • Keyboard shortcut for toggling Input Monitor mode

6. New "Tab to Transient" feature — for "push button simple" navigation to audio attack transients in addition to edit boundaries

New MIDI Features

1. Comprehensive MIDI Event List Window

  • Single window that displays all MIDI data on a given track and allows precise manipulation where graphical editors are unwieldy

  • Fast finding and easy editing of any MIDI event, especially if data is discontinuous

  • Optional "mouse free" operation for maximum speed and efficiency

2. New and unique "Insert Event at Playback Location" for entry of any MIDI event without a keyboard

3. MIDI Multi-record

  • Record multiple MIDI devices at the same time

  • Dump multiple tracks from external sequencers simultaneously

4. MIDI Track Offset window

  • Adjust individual MIDI tracks to compensate for typical MIDI delays

  • Compensate latencies of host — based synthesizers

  • Experiment with grooves and timing

5. Default MIDI thru to play an instrument without record — enabling a track

6. Automatic vertical centering of MIDI note data after recording

Improved Session Management & Interchange

I/O paths and Plug-Ins can be made "inactive." For increased ease of session portability & non-destructive resource management. (Note: No track deactivation on PT LE — TDM only)

Integrated Import Track — for import of audio & MIDI tracks, including all track settings, Plug-Ins and automation

Enhanced find file logic — with unique file identifiers for automatic location resolution

Offline media support — for session opening when related media is absent

Pro Tools LE 5.1 now runs on Windows Millennium based machines, as well as Windows 98 SE and Mac OS

HFS & HFS+ volumes supported on Windows LE systems when using MacOpener 2000 from DatViz — for session transfer from PC to Mac and Mac to PC
