Maximum Performance Guidelines
- Recording to the system startup drive is not recommended or
supported.
- For Power Mac G4 desktop models, a separate internal or external
dedicated audio hard drive is highly recommended for maximum performance
and track count.
Dual Processor Support
- Pro Tools 6 for Mac OS X is fully compatible with Apple dual
processor models. There is no need to install any additional software.
Dual processor users will experience increased performance over
single processor CPUs.
Known Incompatibilities
- Digi 001 will not function if any other Digidesign PCI cards
are installed in the CPU. (such as Audiomedia III or TDM cards)
- Pro Tools LE core hardware systems cannot be combined
- Pro Tools 6 does not work in the OS 9 "Classic Mode".
You must choose Mac OS X as your Startup Disk.
Digi 001 Systems — End of Development
Pro Tools LE 6.4 for Digi 001 Upgrades
Digi 001 owners can now upgrade to Pro Tools LE 6.4 for a special price of $35 (USD), available only on the DigiStore. This upgrade is for any Digi 001 owner that does not already have Pro Tools LE 6. This upgrade is a full installation that does not require previous installation of Pro Tools or registration. Only your hardware serial number from the back or bottom of your Digi 001 audio interface (breakout box) is required for purchase. |
Supported CPU Models, Speeds & Requirements
The following computers are unsupported for use with Digi 001 with
Mac OS X:
- Power Mac G5
- Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)
- Power Mac G3
Digi 001 hardware is not compatible
with Power Mac G5 models. Digi 001 owners wishing to use Power
Mac G5s can take advantage of Digidesign's Hardware
Exchange Program to Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, or Pro Tools|HD
systems.
Note: Digi 001 requires a PCI slot. Apple computers that do not
contain PCI slots, such as laptops, iMac, eMac, and G4 Cube will
not work with the Digi 001.
System Software
- Pro Tools LE 6.4 is officially supported on Mac OS X 10.3.2 and 10.3.4 (Panther)
- Although there are no known issues with Digi 001, Mac OS X 10.3.5 and higher will only be tested with Pro Tools LE 6.7 and higher, which does not support Digi 001
- 10.3.3 has not been fully tested with Pro Tools, will not be further tested, and is not recommended
- Mac OS X Requirements, Installation, Updating & Authorizing Plug-ins
Pro Tools LE 6.4 is not compatible with Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger)
Total System RAM
- 384 MB minimum, 512 or higher recommended
- More RAM increases overall system and Pro Tools performance
- 512 MB RAM or higher suggested for sessions with high edit density,
extensive use of plug-ins, or simultaneous use with MIDI sequencers
- DigiTranslator 2.0 will also require additional RAM
- OS X does not require minimum or preferred RAM settings for
Pro Tools as RAM is dynamically allocated

Pro Tools LE 6.4 for Mac OS X 10.3 is the last version that supports Digi 001 hardware. Pro Tools LE 6.4 is not compatible with Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger).
