Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) Digi 001
Requirements
With Pro Tools LE 6.4 for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)
The following Power Mac G4 models are compatible, but have not been fully
qualified with Digi 001 systems with Pro Tools LE 6.4. These models may
be able to provide full track count performance, however, they cannot
be guaranteed to do so. Your performance and track count may vary depending
on the processor count and speed.
Note the best performance with Mac OS X and Digi 001 is achieved
by using fast dual processor Macs. Slower, single processor Macs will
work with Digi 001, but at a reduced track and/or plug-in count.

The following computers are unsupported for use with Digi 001 with Mac
OS X:
- Power Mac G5
- Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)
- Power Mac G3
Digi 001 hardware is not compatible with
Power Mac G5 models. Digi 001 owners wishing to use Power Mac G5s
can take advantage of Digidesign's Hardware Exchange
Program to Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, or Pro Tools|HD systems.
Note: Digi 001 requires a PCI slot. Apple computers that do not contain
PCI slots, such as laptops, iMac, eMac, and G4 Cube will not work with
the Digi 001.
Additional Information
Additional Requirements & Known Issues
System Software
- Pro Tools LE 6.4 is officially supported on Mac OS X 10.3.2 and 10.3.4 (Panther)
- Although there are no known issues with Digi 001, Mac OS X 10.3.5 and higher will only be tested with Pro Tools LE 6.7 and higher, which does not support Digi 001
- Mac OS X 10.3.3 has not been fully tested with Pro Tools and is not recommended
- Mac OS X Requirements, Installation, Updating & Authorizing Plug-ins
Pro Tools LE 6.4 for Mac OS X 10.3 is the last version that supports Digi 001 hardware. Pro Tools LE 6.4 is not compatible with Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger).
Audio Storage Requirements for Record and Playback:
SCSI HBA Card for SCSI Drives (optional)
MIDI Interface USB Only
Dual Monitor AGP Graphics Cards
- NVIDIA
GeForce4 MX (as shipped from Apple standard on the 933 MHz
& Dual 1 GHz "Quicksilver", 1 GHZ & Dual 867 MHZ "mirrored
drive doors" models)
- ATI
Radeon 7500 (as shipped from Apple standard on the 800 MHz
Power Mac G4)
- ATI
Radeon 9000 Pro (as shipped from Apple standard on the Dual
1 GHz, Dual 1.25 GHz & Dual 1.42 GHz Power Mac G4 "mirrored
drive doors" models)
Note: The NVIDIA GeForce4 TI & ATI Radeon 9700 Pro built-to-order
optional graphics cards from Apple not tested.
All single or dual monitor cards which ship as standard equipment with
qualified Apple Power Mac G4 models at the top of this page are supported
with Pro Tools 6.
Maximum Performance Guidelines
- Recording to the system startup drive is not recommended or supported
- For desktop models, a separate internal (IDE) or external dedicated
FireWire drive is highly recommended for maximum performance and track
count
Known Incompatibilities & Issues
- The Movie Offset feature affects both the QT Movie output to DV and
the Onscreen movie
- If users want to use Japanese fonts in their sessions, they will not
be able to use HFS (standard) drives only HFS+ formatted drives
- Sometimes when opening a session that was based on a PT 3.2 format
session, the following error may occur when Restoring IO paths: Time
type mismatch occurred in "Time_Typed.cpp" line 370. A reboot
may be necessary if this occurs
- System instabilities and performance issues can occur when using MIDI
control surfaces in conjunction with Pro Tools 6 and 3rd party MIDI
interfaces. For best multiport MIDI performance, we recommend using
Digidesign's MIDI I/O. (only if additional MIDI ports are required beyond
the 16 in/16 out built into the Digi 001)
- The Digi 001 will not function if any other Digidesign PCI cards are
installed in the CPU. (Audiomedia III, TDM cards)
- Pro Tools LE core systems cannot be combined, and multiple units are
not supported. For instance:
- A Digi 001 and Digi 002 Rack cannot be used together on the same
computer
- 2 Digi 001 units cannot be used on the same computer
- Digi 002 faders cannot be used with any other system, including
the Digi 001
- Pro Tools 6 does not work in the OS 9 "Classic Mode". You
must choose Mac OS X as your Startup Disk.
