Pro Tools 6.2.2 Update
|
|
For Pro Tools TDM and LE Systems
With Apple Power Mac G5 and Mac OS X 10.3.1 (Panther)
|
Pro Tools LE 6.4 Now Available
Please Use 6.4 Instead of 6.2.2
Note: If you already have Pro Tools LE 6.0 or higher, and you are on Mac OS X Panther, you should skip Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 and 6.2.3 and use the free Pro Tools LE 6.4 Update instead.
Exception: Pro Tools LE 6.2.3 is the last version that will work with the Audiomedia III (AM3) card.
Q: Can I use Pro Tools LE 6.2.3 LE software with my Digi ToolBox/Audiomedia III system?
A: The previously released Pro Tools LE 6.1.2 for Mac OS X and Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 for Windows XP will be the last Pro Tools LE release versions to have qualification and support for Audiomedia III and ToolBox systems, which have been discontinued for some time. While Pro Tools LE 6.2.3 for Mac OS X will not be fully tested or officially qualified with Audiomedia III hardware in Power Mac G4 models with Mac OS X 10.3.1, limited testing has shown that this configuration can be used. However, we cannot guarantee performance. Pro Tools LE 6.2.3 for Mac OS X and Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 for Windows XP are the last versions of Pro Tools LE that will work with the Audiomedia III card.
Pro Tools TDM 6.2.3 Now Available
Please Use 6.2.3 Instead of 6.2.2
Pro Tools TDM users on Panther are advised to update to Pro Tools
TDM 6.2.3 for Mac OS X 10.3.2 instead of Pro Tools 6.2.2. If you
have a Pro Tools TDM system on Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther",
do not download the interim Pro Tools 6.2.2 release below. Go directly
to Pro Tools 6.2.3 instead, without
installing 6.2.2.

Important Information
for Pro Tools|HD Systems
If you are a current Pro Tools|HD or Pro Tools|HD
Accel owner with a Power Mac G5 running OS X 10.2.x, we recommend
that you use Pro Tools 6.2r2.1, as upgrading to Panther and using
Pro Tools 6.2.2 may limit your track count. Digidesign expects restored
track count in a release at the end of Q4 '03 or early Q4 '04. Please
see details above regarding track/voice count for this Pro Tools
release.
Other Pro Tools Systems
Pro Tools|24 MIX, Digi 001 and Audiomedia III
owners, please see the Pro Tools 6.2.2 Q & A
below.
Important Information About Pro Tools 6.2.2
Plug-In Updates & Optional Software
In order to greatly reduce the size of the web downloads, these
optional plug-ins are NOT INCLUDED with the Pro Tools 6.2.2 downloads.
All Digidesign and Digi-distributed plug-ins must be updated in
order to work with Pro Tools 6.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther)
After running the Pro Tools 6.2.2 LE or TDM web update, you must
download updates for any plug-ins that you own and install
these optional plug-ins after installing Pro Tools and BEFORE launching
Pro Tools. Otherwise an error and possible crash will occur
on Pro Tools launch:
Warning: Updating Pace-Wrapped Plug-Ins
Due to a recently discovered PACE copy protection bug, some users
may experience instability and/or crashes when launching Pro Tools,
opening a session, or dismissing a trial-period dialog if any Pace-wrapped
third party plug-ins are installed. The fix for this bug is in the
latest PACE drivers included and installed automatically within
the Pro Tools software installer. Updates to all plug-ins are also
necessary to prevent instability and/or crashes. All plug-ins supplied
with the Pro Tools 6.2.2 installer have been fixed. To determine
which plug-ins are affected, we have included a utility which will
scan your Plug-Ins folder and list all plug-ins that need to be
updated. To use this utility, just launch the "Digidesign Plug-In
Validator" application located in your Pro Tools Utilities
folder. If any of your non-Digidesign plug-ins have not been updated,
they will be listed in the display window. Please visit the Web
site for the manufacturer of any affected plug-ins and download
the update (if available), or ask the manufacturer when one will
be available. Even if you do not have updates for all your plug-ins,
instability will only occur immediately after adding or removing
a plug-in from your Pro Tools Plug-Ins folder. After the first crash
and subsequent reboot, you should not see any further problems,
unless you then add or remove plug-ins from the Plug-Ins folder.
Pro Tools 6.2.2 Plug-In Updates for Mac OS
X 10.3 (Panther)
The plug-in updates on this linked page are included on the Pro
Tools 6.2.2 TDM and LE Update CDs, and the Pro Tools 6.2.2 TDM and
LE CDs included with upgrades and new purchases.
Note: The Pro Tools 6.2.2 Updates for Japanese OS include the updates
for optional plug-ins, which is why they are much larger.
Optional Software
The updates for MP3 Option, DV Toolkit, and DigiTranslator owners
are included in the Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 installer. DV Toolkit will
also need to download the updates for the DINR LE and VocALign Project
LE from the Pro Tools 6.2.2
Plug-In Updates page.
The updates for MP3 Option and DigiTranslator owners are included
in the Pro Tools TDM 6.2.2 installer. AVoption|XL owners will need
to download the AVXL update separately:
AVoption|XL Owners
AVoption|XL 6.2.2 Update for Pro Tools|HD and HD Accel Systems
with Pro Tools 6.2.2:
Chorus DigiRack Plug-In
The original Chorus free DigiRack plug-in included with Pro Tools
TDM and LE 6.2.2 inadvertently had a time limit where the plug-in
will expire on January 13, 2004. DigiRack plug-ins should not have
any expiration date. This installer for Chorus 6.2.2cs1 replaces
the previous version of the plug-in with a new version that has
no expiration.
All Pro Tools TDM 6.2.2 and Pro Tools LE 6.2.2
users should download and install this, after installing Pro Tools
6.2.2

Pro Tools 6.2.2 Q & A
Q: Are new features included with the 6.2.2
release?
A: No. There are no additional
features or fixes included in these updates other than the required
changes for Power Mac G5 and Mac OS X 10.3.1 support.
Q: Should current Power Mac G5-based Pro Tools|HD
users running Mac OS X 10.2.x upgrade to 10.3.1?
A: No. If they do, they may experience
diminished track counts. We recommend that those customers refrain
from moving to 10.3 until full track count qualification is announced.
For more information on Digidesign's current and scheduled testing
and qualification, please visit the following section of the Compatibility
Documents:
Q: Is the Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz qualified
with Pro Tools 6.2.2?
A: The Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8
GHz introduced by Apple in late November 2003 replacing the 1.8
GHz single processor model was originally scheduled for qualification
in Phase III. This model has now been qualified with Pro Tools TDM
and LE v6.2.2 and added to the list of qualified CPUs in Phase II.
Q: Do the installers work with Mac OS X 10.2.x
installed?
A: No. The installers require
that Mac OS X 10.3 or higher is installed on the host system, and
10.3.1 is the only version of Mac OS X currently supported with
Pro Tools 6.2.2.
Q: Can I use Pro Tools 6.2.2 software with
a Pro Tools|24 MIX system?
A: Although there are no known
problems with using Pro Tools 6.2.2 with Pro Tools|24 MIX systems,
this configuration is not officially qualified or supported. Digidesign
will be releasing Pro Tools 6.4.1 in Summer 2004 for Pro Tools|24
MIX customers only.
Q: Can I use a Pro Tools|24 MIX system
on a Power Mac G5?
A: Pro Tools|24 MIX Systems are
not compatible with Apple Power Mac G5 models. Please see the following
message from Digidesign:
Pro Tools|24 MIX Systems End of Development
Q: Can I use Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 or 6.2.3 software
with my Digi 001 system?
A: Digi 001 was not tested with
Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 or 6.2.3. Digi 001 is officially qualified with
Pro Tools LE 6.4 on supported Power Mac G4 models:
Digi 001 hardware is not compatible
with Power Mac G5 models. Digi 001 owners wishing to use Power
Mac G5s can take advantage of Digidesign's Hardware
Exchange Program to Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, or Pro Tools|HD
systems.
Q: Can I use Pro Tools 6.2.2 or 6.2.3 LE software
with my Digi ToolBox/Audiomedia III system?
A: The previously released Pro
Tools LE 6.1.2 for Mac OS X and Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 for Windows
XP will be the last Pro Tools LE release versions to have qualification
and support for Audiomedia III and ToolBox systems, which have
been discontinued for some time. While Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 and
6.2.3 for Mac OS X will not be fully tested or officially qualified
with Audiomedia III hardware in Power Mac G4 models with Mac OS
X 10.3.1, limited testing has shown that this configuration can
be used. However, we cannot guarantee performance. Pro Tools LE
6.2.3 for Mac OS X and Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 for Windows XP are the
last versions of Pro Tools LE that will work with the Audiomedia
III card.
Future Pro Tools LE releases in 2004 and beyond (including Pro
Tools LE 6.4) will not work with Audiomedia III cards. Audiomedia
III and ToolBox owners wishing to use newer versions of Pro Tools
software can take advantage of Digidesign's Hardware
Exchange Program
to Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, or Pro Tools|HD systems.
Audiomedia III hardware is not compatible
with Power Mac G5 models.
Q: Does using the PCI-X slots increase my Pro
Tools system performance? Does it matter if I use the 100 MHz or
133 MHz slots for my HD Accel cards?
A: No. The PCI-X architecture
has no benefit for Pro Tools|HD and HD Accel cards, but the PCI-X
slots are fully compatible with them. As with Power Mac G4s, you
must be careful to observe the proper slot order, without regard
to slot speed.
Q: Does the increased power of the Power Mac
G5 mean that I can use more RTAS plug-ins with both Pro Tools LE
and Pro Tools TDM-based systems?
A: Yes. You will notice a significant
increase in RTAS plug-in count. In tandem with the near-doubling
in power of the HD Accel card over the HD Process card, the increased
power of the Power Mac G5 is the perfect complement to your Pro
Tools environment.
Q: Power Mac G5s have FireWire 400 and 800 ports.
Can either port be used for FireWire drives, and can both ports
be used simultaneously?
A: Our Phase II qualification
includes FireWire 400 drives on the FireWire 400 port. Although
not qualified or tested by us for this release, we have no reason
to believe that additional FireWire 400 drives (with the appropriate
cable adapter) cannot be used on the FireWire 800 port.
Q: Have new FireWire drives been qualified?
A: We have only qualified the
Avid/DigiDrives that are on our current compatibility documents.
Q: Is QuickTime DV playback from the FireWire
port supported with this release? If so, which of the FireWire ports
can be used?
A: Yes. But you must use the FireWire
400 port.
Q: Are third party QuickTime cards such as the
Igniter or transcoders such as Canopus supported with this second
phase?
A: Yes. In addition to qualifying
AVoption|XL in Phase II of our Power Mac G5 support releases, we've
also qualified the Canopus ADVC-100 DV (external FireWire transcoder)
and the Aurora IgniterX PCI card. Note that if you have an early
version of the Igniter LT, it may not be compatible with Power Macs
G5s. Please visit the Aurora website www.auroravideosys.com for
instructions on how to upgrade your card.
Q: OK, I have Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and Pro
Tools 6 software. How can I get Pro Tools 6.2.2 if I can't download?
A: Pro Tools TDM and LE 6.2.2
software updates are free to all Mac-based customers who own registered
Pro Tools 6.0 or newer software. The update is available three ways:
-
Digidesign Dealers Pro Tools TDM and LE 6.2.2 software
CDs will be distributed to dealers in early December. Qualified
Pro Tools 6 owners will need their authorization code from Pro
Tools 6.0 or above to install and authorize the software.
-
Web Downloads Pro Tools TDM and LE 6.2.2 software upgrades
are posted above. Unfortunately, these downloads are very large,
so a broadband connection is necessary.
-
For Pro Tools 6 owners who cannot get to a local Digidesign
Dealer for the free CD or who cannot successfully download,
the full installer CDs will be available in December through
the online DigiStore
for $4.95 US plus shipping and local tax, if applicable. (average
cost is @ $15 USD total, including DHL air shipping) Once the
Pro Tools 6.2.2 Update CDs are in stock, you can place your
order on the DigiStore and we will ship you the Pro Tools TDM
or LE CD that you order by DHL air. DigiStore orders are generally
processed within 2 business days. Qualified Pro Tools 6 owners
will need their authorization code from Pro Tools 6.0 or above
to install and authorize the software.
Pro Tools 6.2.2 Update CDs are not
available from Digidesign Customer Service or Technical Support.
These will only be available from authorized
Digidesign Dealers or the DigiStore beginning in December.
Q. What if I haven't upgraded to Pro Tools 6
at all?
A: For Pro Tools 5.x owners, the
Pro Tools TDM 6.2.2 software upgrade is $195 US. The Pro Tools LE
upgrade including Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 software is $75 US. Full installer
CDs with Pro Tools 6.2.2 will be included in Pro Tools 6.2.2 Upgrades
beginning in December. Pro Tools 6 upgrades are available from the
online DigiStore
and your local Digidesign Dealer.
International Customers: To avoid the delays of shipping and possible
extra customs fees in your country, many customers may prefer to
order upgrades from their nearest Digidesign
Dealer
Q: What if I buy a new Pro Tools system, will
I get Pro Tools 6.2.2?
A: Beginning in December, 2003,
full installer CDs with Pro Tools 6.2.2 software will be included
in shipping Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools|HD products. Systems that
contain Pro Tools 6.2.2 software installers are clearly marked on
the barcode label. For units that do not show "Pro Tools 6.2.2"
on the barcode, your Digidesign dealer should provide the Pro Tools
6.2.2 inventory update kit for Pro Tools|HD or LE systems to customers
using Mac OS X 10.3.1 and CPUs compatible with this Pro Tools version.
Thanks!
