Supported CPU Models & Requirements
G4 Desktops - PCI vs. AGP Graphics Support
Pro Tools 6 TDM systems are not supported with G4 PCI graphics
models, only the G4 AGP graphics models. All G3 and older models
are also not supported.
G4 PowerBook CardBus PCI Expansion
- Magma 4-slot CB4DRQ-D1
- Magma 2-Slot CB232-D1
- Magma 2-Slot CB2 (discontinued)
- Magma 2-Slot CB2S (SCSI model, discontinued. SCSI card should
be removed for use on OS X )
Limited Cardbus support for Pro Tools 6.1. No SCSI support, Firewire
drives only, using the below configuration:
- 48kHz 4DSP 128 voice Playback engine: for a maximum of 96 tracks/voices
- 48kHz 2DSP 96 voice Playback engine: for a maximum of 64 tracks/voices
- 96kHz 4DSP 64 voice Playback engine: for a maximum of 48 tracks/voices
- 96kHz 2DSP 48 voice Playback engine: for a maximum of 32 tracks/voices
- If you experience persistent 6031 errors, it may be necessary
to raise the Hardware Buffer size.
Dual Processor Support
Pro Tools 6.1 is fully compatible with Apple dual-processor G4
models running OS X. There is no need to install any additional
software. Dual-processor users will experience increased performance
over the single-processor CPUs.
System Software
Mac OS 10.2.6 or 10.2.8 (Jaguar) Required for Pro Tools 6.1 on
G4
Mac OS 10.2.7 or 10.2.8 (Jaguar) Required for Pro Tools 6.2r2 on
G5
Mac OS X 10.3.1 (Panther) Required for Pro Tools 6.2.2
System RAM Requirements
1024 MB recommended for sessions with:
- Large amounts of audio, large DSP engines, high edit density,
or large DigiBase databases
- Options like MachineControl and DigiTranslator 2.0
More RAM increases overall system and Pro Tools performance
OS X does not require minimum or preferred RAM settings for Pro
Tools as RAM is dynamically allocated
Note: In Pro Tools 6.0.x, the maximum allowable RAM was 1.5 GB.
MDD G4 models with 2.0 GB would cause a "NeoAccess Error"
and Pro Tools would not boot unless some RAM was removed. This issue
is solved in Pro Tools 6.1 and higher. Answerbase
