Audio Interfaces — Other Manufacturers

Digidesign does not test or verify other manufacturers' audio peripherals with our system. During beta testing of Pro Tools HD 7 software, we received feedback that installing Pro Tools HD 7 software may prevent a non-Digidesign audio interface from working. We therefore suggest that customers contact the manufacturer of their device to check on potential compatibility issues before upgrading to Pro Tools HD 7 software.

Avid Interchange

AVoption|V10 and Avid Mojo are supported in Pro Tools HD 7.0 for Windows XP:

AVoption|XL Not Compatible

AVoption|XL is not supported with Pro Tools 6.3 and higher. Pro Tools 6.2 is the last release with support for AVoption|XL.

Third-Party Video Capture Cards

  • Except for systems with AVoption|V10 or Avid Mojo, video playback within Pro Tools is only supported via the computer monitor. Hardware Codecs are not supported. Use a third party application and card to capture video and import the video into Pro Tools. For the best performance use Avid CODEC DV files created by Avid Express DV.

Maximum & Minimum Computer Specification Guidelines, Known Issues & Incompatibilities

CPUs adhering to the Minimum Computer Specification Guidelines may be able to provide full track count performance, however they cannot be guaranteed to do so.

Digidesign's recommendations for maximum performance:

System Software

  • Windows XP Professional or Home Edition (Professional required for Avid Mojo, AVoption|V10, Avid Unity)
  • Not Supported:
    • Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
    • Windows XP Media Center Edition
  • Pro Tools HD 7.0 and 7.1 are qualified with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP1 not tested)
  • If you are updating from SP1 to SP2, please read the following beforehand to help insure a smooth transition:
  • Pro Tools HD 7 software can't be installed or used on systems running Windows 98, Me, 2000, NT, 95, or 3.1
  • Windows XP Settings & Requirements

System RAM Requirements

  • 512 MB RAM minimum required
  • 1 GB (1024 MB) or more highly recommended

1 GB or more RAM recommended for sessions with:

  • Large amounts of audio, large DSP engines, high edit density, or large DigiBase databases
  • A large number of installed plug-ins
  • Options like MachineControl and DigiTranslator

2 GB (2048 MB) minimum required with the following options:

  • D-Control
  • AVoption|V10
  • Avid Mojo

New Session File Format (".ptf")

Pro Tools 7.0 uses a new session file format and extension (.ptf) to distinguish its sessions from sessions created with previous versions. Pro Tools 7 sessions need to be saved as an earlier format to be used with pre-7.0 Pro Tools systems. For more information, see the following:

While most Digidesign and Development partner plug-in versions for Pro Tools 6.9.x are also compatible with Pro Tools 7, all RTAS plug-ins will need to be updated to take advantage of the improvements to RTAS plug-in performance introduced in Pro Tools 7.

Please note: Plug-in versions updated for Pro Tools 7 are NOT compatible with Pro Tools 6. For all Digidesign and Digi-distributed plug-ins, both versions will be available, and use the same authorization on both Pro Tools 7 and Pro Tools 6.
